Carthage, Post 2

The Thermes is what this place is called. The remains of the basement floor of the baths are all that you see in the wide view. These baths were feats of engineering. The places we could walk around were where the slaves or servants would stoke the fires for heat, run water etc. Above people of any class could come and exercise and bathe.


This is my Roman slave boy (jk). Underneath this cove was a series of tunnels that led to the lower level. We are up above the tunnels. The baths sit right next to the sea, although archaeologists are not sure where exactly the water level was in the 2nd century A.D. It was a gorgeous day that day. Breezy, cool and comfortable and there were luscious gardens all around the property. We couldn't take pictures of some of the area because it faced the President's residence.
Sarah Two, as she was so nicknamed. This lady was so fun and interesting. She graciously allowed me to use her lap top (she was the only one who brought one) so I could communicate with my family. The hotel computer was a European one complete with Arabic, it was difficult to use. Sarah spent some time in Germany and has been many places. She was very kind to me and I enjoyed talking with her.
