I had the privilege of attending a private rehearsal for this band. It was live, traditional Arabic music. I was enthralled. One of the most amazing things about this kind of music is the addition of, what are sometimes called, quarter tones. The vocal performers could do things with their voices that I cannot do with mine and I have a fairly decent range. I loved listening to their music.
Another characteristic of this music is the passion and emotion of it. It is lovely to get swept up in the songs and even though I didn't understand the language, the words--I understood the meaning. They are mostly about love, the tragedy of love or loss of it and the joy of it. Those feelings translate well.
